# Cost per customer for a feature

> Get the average cost per customer of one feature with a unit economic.

This combines the two previous guides: take the cost of one feature, then divide it among the customers who use it.

| You want | You get it from | Time |
| :- | :- | :- |
| **The average cost per customer of a feature** | A unit economic: the feature node divided by the customers using that feature | 10 minutes |

## Before you start

* A node for the feature. See [Cost per feature](https://docs.optimazehq.com/guides/cost-per-feature.md).
* A count of customers who use the feature, for example *Search active customers*. Count users of the feature, not all customers, or the figure will look cheaper than it is.

## The average cost per customer of a feature

**1. Bring in the feature's customer count**

Under **Data**, select **Metrics**, then **New metric**, and choose **Advanced: Custom Metric Setup**. Name it after the feature, for example `search_active_customers`, upload its history and keep it current through the API. See [Business metrics](https://docs.optimazehq.com/business-metrics.md).

**2. Create the unit economic**

Under **Measure**, select **Unit Economics**, then **New unit economic**.

* **Name**: *Search cost per customer*
* **Cost from**: the model and the feature node
* **Divide by**: **Published metric**, then the feature's customer count
* **More details**: set **Currency** and a **Unit Display Name** of *per customer*

Check the **Preview**, then select **Create**.
